Festival of light is a mix of intriguing events which take place during the Blackpool Illuminations.

Blackpool Festival of Light, part of the Blackpool Illuminations, the biggest temporary light show in the World. The Festival is a mixture of spectacular and intriguing events and installations taking place in Blackpool during the 66 nights of the Illuminations.
Sony Playstation Game Zones

Four ordinary looking shipping containers have again returned to Blackpool Promenade outside Sandcastle Waterworld but once again, they conceal fantastic scenes and the newest Sony games.
Tower Top Lights
4 powerful Robe Colourspot 1200 Ats have been installed at the top of the iconic Blackpool Tower for Switch On week beamed high into the sky and may even reflect off the odd passing cloud!
Bajra, The Peacock Boat

Festival of Light international feature is the breathtaking Bajra. This delicately shimmering peacock was designed by Nandita Palchoudhuri, created in Chandannagar (West Bengal, India) by lighting expert Sridhar Das and is decorated with a staggering 135,000 tiny handmade light bulbs individually wrapped in coloured paper. Bajra will be on display in the Winter Gardens from October 2005. The completion of Bajra took ten people two months due to it’s complexity and detail. An engineering crew will be making the trip to Britain to assemble the piece at the Winter Gardens.
The Magic Tree
72 colour changing Pulsar Chromaspheres hang like exotic fruit from a 40 foot high tree in the middle of Gynn roundabout. The computer controlled orbs run through numerous programmes nightly with a new show for Christmas from November 6th.
Thunderbird 3

Thunderbird 3 has once again landed in Blackpool for the Illuminations season. This 50 foot high rocket has its very own Tracy Island launch pad in the landscaped Flagstaff Gardens where it will be surrounded by illuminated palm trees throughout the Blackpool Illuminations. Alan Tracy will be testing his engines nightly in an out of this world sound and light display.
Mirror Ball

World’s largest Mirror Ball, Michael Trainor’s They Shoot Horses Don’t They? will feature a unique programme of lighting design devised especially for the Festival of Light. Michael Trainor’s piece contains over 45,000 mirrored squares and will provide a contemporary ‘canvas’ for the innovative lighting design by Greg McLenahan.
